Maharishi – SS17 – Pt. XIV

May 1, 2017

This season Maharishi returns in store under familiar inspiration. The vision behind one of our favourite brands has always been to make clothing that both uses the earth as a catalyst and respects it through construction. Their intent to provide utilitarian goods brought them to Africa for Spring Summer 2017. The continental perusal had them following the American and Chinese military presence across the continent. While the existence of military forces are there to support regional stability and trade while natural resources provide a secondary, more selfish reason for presence.

Using subdued, earthy swatches, camouflage and precision detailing take centre stage for this collection. Maharishi’s concern is human interaction and how it exists alongside our planet. How we choose to equip ourselves while immersing in the environments that engage us most is what Maharishi wants to be a part of. Whether it’s taking from the past, through their upcycle process of military goods, or taking a futuristic perspective on current wear, this is the brand for the environment.

Maharishi this summer has revisited the popular custom pant, giving us a washed Italian cotton version, a linen iteration and a tech cargo look. As if these pants weren’t versatile enough, Maha has gone and further explored the possibilities of this pant.

Extending their vision to shorting, the Snoshorts are a sure bet for the warm weather. These feature an exclusively designed waistband fastening system. Poolside? Got you. The Maha Swim Short is there. A ripstop nylon ensures durability for waterside activities.

One of the most unique pieces this season comes in the form the of upcycled smock jacket. The vintage Belgian military jacket has been refurbished by being repaired and refurbished. Additionally the back has been touched up with a hand painted camo.
