PURSUIT – The Annex Hotel

PURSUIT – The Annex Hotel
Uncle Otis

Tucked away amongst the lowrise buildings of the Annex neighbourhood, lies a matte black jewel. The hotel that bears the name of its home community, dons an easily passable dark facade. However, the unassuming exterior houses a beautiful interior looking to become one of Toronto’s hotspots, drawing crowds from local and abroad.

Welcome to the Annex Hotel.

The entrance to is split into two doors amongst the graffiti-coated alley off of Brunswick ave. The lobby to the left greets you with the smell of freshly ground Reunion Island coffee, furiously prepared with care. Just past the coffee bar, a cove ceiling engulfs a marble bar waiting patiently for the next nightly visitors. The room known as the lobby does not have a front desk, check-ins are done digitally. Instead, the lobby is used for events at night and as a workspace during the day.

From the lobby, two flights of stairs lead you to the rooms, designed by Toronto architecture firm, StudioAC. The spaces spare no single detail, as sharp lines and delicate colours drive multi-directionally across the suites. The open atmospheres of the rooms employ multipurpose surfaces to avoid the sterile feel of traditional hotels. The absence of TV encourages guests to discover the surrounding neighbourhood. Instead of a day in bed, let the sounds of records new and old fill the room as you get ready to explore the eclectic areas Toronto has to offer.

While the bedrooms come stocked with goodies from a number of local food & drink companies, the Annex Commons houses two Toronto staple restaurants. The wide-spanning space envokes a lounge feeling while a crowd-pleasing menu created by Big Trouble Pizza and Seven Lives Tacos fills you up. Open nightly for your cravings, the Annex Commons has already established itself as a go-to spot for a crisp drink and a bite.

The Annex is meant to be more than a hotel. It serves as a beacon for a drink, a coffee, a staycation or an event. Whether you’re from near or far, immerse yourself in this Toronto neighbourhood by way of the Annex hotel’s meticulous attention to detail, and good times.
