Monitaly | FW20
Uncle Otis

This week Uncle Otis is pleased to introduce our fall/winter collection from California’s own Monitaly. Notably, every piece we’ve received in this delivery is constructed in Los Angeles as Monitaly strives to preserve American craftsmanship while rewriting the definition of Americana in the world of fashion.

This season’s assortment is dominated by four tones: black, olive, chestnut and safety orange. As we dive deeper into the details of each garment, Monitaly’s embrace of labour and military heritage will become as discernable as their desire to push the envelope of design.

Monitaly’s quilted crewneck and bucket hat are made from a lightweight, and water-resistant parachute nylon and topped off with diamond stitching for added texture. The crewneck is lined in a glossy olive fabric and insulated with polyester which, unlike traditional down, will remain light even when wet. A final nod to nostalgia is shown in the ribbed wool cuffs and waistline of the crewneck replicating those found on vintage American flight jackets.

Complementing our orange accented outfit is a jacket and pant pair in a polished chestnut brown. Briefly switching focus from military to workwear, Monitaly presents a painter pant design formalized by a lux 8-wale corduroy constitution. In keeping with the configuration of the original painter’s pants, this contemporary copy features a hammer loop on the left leg and two utility pockets on the right. Completing our corduroy coupling is another workwear repro from Monitaly, the barn jacket. Inspired by hunting jackets of the ’80s, this piece is distinguished by its deep D-pockets, raglan sleeves and popping patterned liner.

The feature item in our second photoset is, interestingly enough, a reworking of a little known Canadian army classic. The military half coat is a modern conception of a field jacket distributed by the Canadian Forces in the 1960s. True to the original, Monitaly’s design is equipped with four gusseted pockets, patched elbows, and a midlevel draw-cord to help suit your silhouette. The coat is constructed using Monitaly’s water-resistant, cotton sateen exclusively sourced from Vancloth and Son’s of Los Angeles.

Highlighting our final few shots is Monitaly’s pinnacle piece, the unparalleled panelled zip-up hoodie. Back in black, this jacket/hoodie is cloaked in quilted nylon that contrasts with panels of water-repelling cotton from Vancloth’s. Its incredibly soft fleece interior is made in the U.S.A. and sourced from Polartec, the same company the American military counts on to insulate today’s servicemen and women stationed around the globe.

With a busy September already underway, be sure to keep your eyes locked on the blog for more details on new collections continually arriving in-store. Shop the full fall/winter collection from Monitaly by scrolling through the products below.
